Official Practice Begins

-Hey everyone just wanted to let everyone know there is a mens lacrosse meeting that will be scheduled on the Monday 19th of October. It will be from 6:00 – 8:00 PM we will replace it with practice to:

1. Announce official roster 2009-2010
2. Show expense report
3. Lacrosse game schedule pre season + spring 2010
(all players must have all paperwork + $400 Dues to qualify for the roster).

-Open practice is over, evaluation for roster begins now – Also from now on if you seriously would like to play lacrosse for utsa you must commit your time for practice. Practice is mandatory on Mon. and Wed. 6-8 pm pre season. Evaluation begins this monday and will affect your participation in games.

-When there is rain for practice please check the e-mail as to know when practice is canceled (final decisions are made 4:00 pm), we are trying to set up a mass text message to notify when practice is rescheduled or canceled.

NCAA + MCLA 2010 Head List Rules

the NCAA rules committee was getting all sorts of jacked up about these 6′4″, 225 lb. middies running down the field cradling through and over 5-6 defensemen and sticking a high, hard one on an overmatched goalie. They felt that more injuries may occur because harder stick and body checks would be thrown to try and dislodge the ball from the current lacrosse heads. The solution? Change the lacrosse head specs for NCAA play, making the lacrosse heads wider in the throat area, which would allow more “free dislodgment of the ball” during the course of a game. What does all this mean to John Q Laxrat? We’ve tried to outline the changes and preempt any three-minute illegal stick penalties below.

There are three categories of men’s lacrosse heads moving forward. They are:

NCAA Legal – These babies are tight up top!
• Advantage -Tightest head allowed under new 2010 lacrosse head specifications.
• Disadvantage – Only legal for teams that play under 2010 NCAA Lacrosse Rules.

Legal for all levels of play – Universal, why take a chance?
• Advantage – Legal for every level of play, youth through professional.
• Disadvantage – None

Legal for all levels of play except NCAA – 99% of the heads on the market prior to fall of 2009
• Advantage – It is what is sitting in your closet or garage.
• Disadvantage – Not legal for NCAA play.

The new rules for NCAA 2010 lacrosse head specifications go into effect January 1, 2010.

Most youth and high school lacrosse programs will not be affected by the new lacrosse head specification changes. If you have any questions please contact your local lacrosse chapter or state organization for further clarification on the rule changes in your area.

NEWS

Saturday morning the officers will drive up to Waco, Texas for a meeting with the Lone Star Alliance mens lacrosse league. Games scheduling will be decided, and discussing the status of the team on probation or regular status as due to the incident back in 2006.

MENS LACROSSE 2009 – 2010 TRYOUTS – try-outs are right around the corner, please come prepared hope to see everyone out there and good luck. focus on your catching your passing running and cradling. also everyone must have paperwork in. If paperwork is not complete paperwork may be filled out at the tryouts. It will be held on the regular rec. fields Wednesday the 23rd of September from 6-8pm.

DUES DEADLINE DATE CHANGED – Deadline for dues has been changed to the 16th of October. This applies to everyone travel team + those that wish to play on the travel team this year.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

If you are interested in joing the UTSA mens lacrosse here is how to register,

1. Come to any practice or a scheduled registration day (information listed in the flier above) and obtain a registration packet.
2. Have $400 cash or check (check made out to “UTSA Mens Lacrosse”) – will pay for 1. Uniform + helmet, League Dues, Coach + Hotel, and other travel expenses.
3. Have money and registration papers turned into us at practices or contact us. We will have an office set up soon. Office location will be posted later.
